A complete and enhanced record of everyone's individual service showing dates, injuries, transfers, and promotions can be found in the book The 18th New York Infantry in the Civil War: A History and Roster, recently published by Ryan A. Conklin, McFarland Publishing Co. 2016. This definitive roster was originally based on the Annual Report of the Adjutant-General of the State of New York Report published in 1899, which themselves were compiled from original muster rolls of volunteers from the state of New York. Created in a time when records were hard to compile, misconstrued, or left blank, Conklin's roster is built off of them. Numerous misspellings were corrected, a few duplicated men were deleted, and missing dates, injuries, and promotions found in personnel files in the National Archives and other primary sources were inserted in order to present the most complete, and corrected roster of the regiment ever created, one that's even aided by photographs of some servicemen.
